A Madison County jury convicted Carla of two counts of capital murder. The jury did not impose the death penalty and the Circuit Court of Madison County imposed two sentences of life imprisonment without the possiblity of parole, with both sentences to run concurrently.
During the lower court trial, Carla was represented by Attorneys Johnny Walls and Brandon Dorsey. Walls and Dorsey also represented her on appeal.

To date, Carla does not have an attorney of record.
After careful research of this Capital murder case, we have determined a great need for extensive investigations. Highly skilled and experienced investigators are expensive and so are highly skilled and experienced criminal attorneys.
It is of utmost importance to secure individuals with extensive knowledge of capital laws. Carla has maintained innocence throughout her 9 plus years of incarceration and we must prove it.
Carla Hughes was framed and has not expressed knowledge of who committed this egregious murder because she does not know who committed it.

Carla Hughes Was Framed In the State Of Mississippi
Carla Hughes Was Framed!
Carla Hughes is a former public school teacher with a Master's degree in education. Carla was framed, tried and convicted of capital murder in the death of Avis Banks and her unborn child.
Carla is a victim of Dr. Steven Hayne's testimony. Dr. Hayne was the subject of "The Innocence Project's Formal Records Request to Determine how much Hayne used state labs for Autopsy Misconduct." Click Here For Innocence Project Press Release .
Carla was represented by an experienced Tobacco Litigation attorney who appears to have had expertise in civil law, not capital murder.
While Carla's family paid dearly for her legal representation, they are currently in need of assistance to provide expert legal services for her.
